About the role

At the heart of the role is connecting young people with volunteer mentors and ensuring those relationships thrive.
You will:
- Build trusted, consistent relationships with students across Years 7–11
- Deliver engaging group sessions to develop confidence and aspiration (particularly in Years 7 & 8)
- Recruit, train and support volunteer mentors from the local community
- Act as the key link between students, mentors and the school
- Track and celebrate student progress through meaningful data and stories

- Has experience working with young people (education, youth work, mentoring, coaching or similar)
- Builds relationships quickly and authentically
- Is organised, proactive and resilient
- Believes deeply in the potential of every young person
- Wants a role with real purpose and visible impact
You do not need to be a teacher — but you do need energy, empathy and determination.

Macmillan Academy
Macmillan Academy opened as Macmillan CTC in 1989 and converted to an academy in September 2007. The academy is a larger than average secondary academy with a large sixth form in central Middlesbrough. We have built a reputation locally for academic success and our GCSE and A-Level results are consistently strong. In our two most recent OFSTED inspections we were judged as ‘Outstanding’ and then ‘Good’. We are determined in driving forward improvement and we aim to provide students with outstanding learning experiences which are both challenging and engaging, enabling them to fulfil their potential. It is now part of the Endeavour Academies Trust.
