Are you a dedicated and experienced pastoral leader looking for an exciting opportunity to make a real impact?
Durham High School is seeking an exceptional individual to join our senior leadership team as Assistant Head (Pastoral).
As one of the North East’s leading independent schools for girls aged 3-18, we are proud of our nurturing environment, outstanding pastoral care, and strong Christian ethos. In December 2024, we were named The Sunday Times Independent Secondary School of the Year 2025, a testament to our commitment to excellence.
This newly created role is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead the pastoral vision of our school. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being, personal development, and safeguarding of our pupils, working closely with a dedicated team of Heads of Year and pastoral staff. We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate leader who will:
- Inspire and lead a whole-school approach to pastoral care, well-being, and safeguarding.
- Develop and implement effective strategies to support student welfare, resilience, and personal growth.
- Foster a positive and inclusive culture, ensuring all pupils feel valued, safe, and supported.
- Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to enhance the pastoral experience of every student.
- Play a key role in the strategic leadership of the school, contributing to its vision and future growth.
This is an exciting time to join Durham High School. Our recent strategic partnership with Galaxy Global Education presents new opportunities for growth and innovation, and we are looking for a forward-thinking leader with the vision and passion to help shape the future of our school.
If you are a dedicated pastoral professional with strategic vision, leadership experience, and a genuine commitment to student well-being, we would love to hear from you.
To apply, please complete the application form (submit as a PDF) and submit this with a covering letter (also PDF), outlining your reasons for applying and what you feel you can bring to the post. This should be addressed for the attention of the Headmistress and sent by email to enquiries@dhsfg.org.uk.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 12 March at 9am.
Interviews will be held week commencing Monday 17 March 2025.
