We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified swimming instructor to join our Community Learning team at Astley Community High School.
Astley Community High School is unique among Northumberland schools in having its own 20 metre swimming pool that helps swimmers of all ages to develop water confidence and swimming skills. We have a well attended programme of swimming lessons for children and adults and are seeking an experienced Swimming Teacher to run the sessions.
Our popular swimming programmes run termly, Tuesday to Friday from 5pm for Ducklings up to stage 7 of the ASA Learn to Swim Pathway, to either small groups of learners or occasionally as 1:1 tuition; the extra time is for preparation, assessment and administration. A Pool Lifeguard will also be available and you will need to work together to ensure appropriate health and safety measures are in place at all times.
Qualified with at least an ASA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching/Coaching Swimming (or equivalent), you will have previous experience of delivering the ASA Learn to Swim Pathway, or similar, to ensure successful progression of learners depending on their ability and needs within a fun and friendly environment. We will particularly welcome someone who can contribute to the development of community swimming and improve access to this important resource.
The working hours for the post will be confirmed with the successful candidate, we anticipate the core hours will be 4.30pm to 7.30pm Tuesday to Friday, the hours may increase as our numbers increase. We would consider job share applicants to work part of the week.
Northumberland County Council has recently announced a new building for Astley Community High School and Whytrig Middle School, which will include new sports facilities and a new swimming pool. This is a really exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take our swimming provision into the new build and enable us to develop our swimming programme over the coming years.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced criminal records check is required for this post.
Interested in applying? A completed application form must be submitted by 12 noon on Friday 8th March 2024 by e-mail to vacancies@svf.org.uk
