Learning Support Assistant – Key Stage 3/4 SEMH
Talbot House School
37.5 hours per week
Quote from one of our Learning support assistants:
“Yesterday I did nothing I had set out do, I didn’t finish planning for next week or renew the display, research our rewards trips for next term or call the library to arrange a visit. Some might say that was an unproductive day, a waste. But I did manage to convince a young person that they had produced an excellent piece of work; that they shouldn’t destroy it, tear it up and throw it away, as they suggested; that everything they do is not worthless, that they are not worthless. Today, because of me, that person knows they are worthy. That’s priceless.”
Would you like to work in an environment which challenges you, where young people with adverse backgrounds and disrupted childhoods need your strength and understanding to guide them through the day? Can you display empathy as well as patience, warmth and clarity? Would you appreciate being paid for the same proportion of the year as your colleagues, for 52 weeks not just 39? Where your people skills, life experience and physical presence are rewarded appropriately? Yes? Why not work with us?

Talbot House School
Talbot House Trust is a children’s charity, based in the west of Newcastle upon Tyne, with an independent SEMH school for children from age 7 to 18, a vocational skills centre and a residential children’s home. Our children have a range of special educational needs, having struggled in mainstream educational facilities. Using our own blend of pastoral techniques and educational flexibility, Talbot House celebrates the achievements of each child and supports them to success.
We aim to ensure every child aspires to become the best they can be. To achieve this, our staff must also aspire to be the best they can be and share our values; to care for, respect and support one another in this endeavour.Visit School Website
