We’re offering an exciting opportunity to lead our thriving Physics Department in the North East’s leading independent girls’ day school.
As Head of Physics in our all-girls’ setting, you will play a crucial role in inspiring the next generation of female scientists and engineers – fostering a passion for physics, mechanics, engineering, and technology. You will helping us in our mission to address the persistent gender imbalance in STEM by equipping girls with the skills, confidence, passion and ambition to be trailblazers and world shapers in these fields.
The successful candidate will be a well-qualified, enthusiastic, and motivated teacher with a strong knowledge of Physics across Key Stages 3 to 5, significant experience teaching A Level, and a passion for fostering a love of science and technology from Key Stage 2 upwards.
Our well-resourced department benefits from state-of-the-art labs, an outdoor science terrace, and a flexible lecture-style learning space. With high uptake in A Level sciences, we are committed to breaking down stereotypes and encouraging girls to pursue STEM careers. Beyond the classroom, our vibrant STEM Club and ‘Science is my Superpower’ outreach programme engage both our pupils and the wider community. A commitment to developing STEM opportunities beyond the curriculum is essential.
NHSG offers a supportive and dynamic teaching environment with excellent training and professional development opportunities.

Newcastle High School for Girls
Newcastle High School for Girls is one of the North East’s leading independent girls’ day schools. Founded in 2014 following the merger of two very long standing predecessor schools, NHSG is a state-of-the-art, modern school with a tradition and history stemming back almost 150 years.
We are an all through school (ages 3-18) with around 250 girls in the Junior School and 450 in the Senior School, including 150 in the Sixth Form, who, together with around 150 staff, make up a friendly and welcoming community.
The Junior and Senior Schools occupy their own separate campuses around a mile apart and the role will require working at both locations. Our two campuses are situated within the suburban, leafy, areas of Jesmond and Sandyford, both with excellent transport links to the Tyne & Wear Metro and bus services from across the region.
