St Thomas More Catholic School is a co‑educational Catholic Academy serving the young people of west Gateshead. As part of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, we hold a deep and unwavering commitment to Catholic education and to nurturing each child in an environment where they feel known, loved and valued.
At the heart of our mission is a relentless drive to ensure every pupil experiences a genuine sense of belonging. We believe that children flourish when they feel safe, supported, and connected to a community that celebrates them for who they are. Our school is rooted in the belief that strong relationships, compassion and mutual respect are the foundations on which outstanding education is built.
We are proud to be part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, a family of 48 schools across Durham, Gateshead, Northumberland and Sunderland. As the largest Catholic Education Trust in the North East, this community strengthens our shared commitment to excellence, collaboration and faith.
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated professional to lead our Physical Education department. This is an important and rewarding role within our school, and we are excited to welcome a leader who can help drive the next chapter of our PE provision.
We are passionate about sport and deeply committed to the positive impact it has on our pupils’ physical health, emotional wellbeing and character development. PE is a valued and thriving part of our community, and we are proud of the breadth of opportunities we offer—both within the curriculum and beyond it—to ensure all pupils enjoy their lessons and flourish through participation.
Our PE department is proud of the wide range of courses we offer and the high uptake at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. We are seeking a candidate with the skills and expertise to deliver both A‑Level and vocational qualifications, and the ability to support colleagues to ensure our provision remains of the highest standard.
We are looking for a leader with a clear commitment to our ethos and a willingness to go above and beyond for our staff and pupils. At St Thomas More, we value hard work, integrity and a desire to be the very best we can be, both individually and collectively.
We are ideally seeking a Head of PE who can join us at Easter; however, we are open to discussing alternative start dates with the right candidate.
