If you are a leader looking for a model of schooling that dares to break the mould, and genuinely connects the creative arts to the whole curriculum, then this might just be for you.
XP Gateshead is a new mainstream 11-16 Secondary School that opened in August 2021. We are a deliberately sized school with each year having 50 students, we currently have 200 students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10.
We are looking for great people who want to become even better to join our school.
We are now recruiting a Faculty Leader for ARTS which incorporates disciplines of Art, Photography, Media, DT, Creative Computing, Music and PE.
We are particularly interested in leaders with teaching expertise in Art & Design and Photography. Additional skills in Media and Design Technology would be welcome too.
At XPG, School Faculty Leads work closely with Trust Subject Leads and their role is essentially about “implementation and impact” of our expeditionary curriculum model.
This role is based at our school in Gateshead. There are seven other schools in our Trust which are based in Doncaster. You would also work closely with Trust Subject Leads from our Trus, to ensure that our carefully considered subject intent is implemented effectively in your faculty. There is an extensive induction process when joining our Trust.
You can read our recent Ofsted report here.
Our rigorous 3-D approach develops activism, leadership and equity in our students by creating beautiful work, which develops character and ensures that our children achieve academic success.
We believe a person is judged by their character and the quality of work they produce. As such the creative arts are at the heart of our curriculum. We teach through cross-curricular learning expeditions where students address important guiding questions, making connections between disciplines.
Our children express who they are by personalising their work, and are given time to produce beautiful and meaningful work by following a process of multiple drafts and critique, working towards creating products which are curated in the community and are indistinguishable from the work of professionals. Our students have work that is curated in our local hospital, in published local history books, at the Shipley Art Gallery, on streaming services for their music and have held exhibitions at the Farrell Centre, Great North Museum, Newcastle University, Caedmon Hall and more! Our students do work that matters through the arts and their work improves communities.
You will join our team of dedicated professionals in an innovative school setting with the purpose of improving life chances for young people in Gateshead. As a part of our team you would also be a Crew Leader for 12-13 students.
XP Gateshead is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service .
If you would like any further information please contact us by email at office@gateshead.org or by telephone on 0191 481 4360.
There will be an opportunity to look around the school at 5.00pm on Thursday 6th March with an ambassador tour from students and a chance to meet leaders. Please contact our office using the details above if you would like to attend this evening.
Application forms can be downloaded via the XP Trust website and all application forms should be returned directly to XP Trust vacancies@xptrust.org before Friday 14th March @ 9am. Interviews will take place between Wednesday 19th and Friday 21st March.

XP Gateshead School
XP Gateshead is an exciting and innovative new small secondary school for 11-16 year olds, from the XP School Trust. The school will be based on the same model as strikingly successful XP Schools in Doncaster.
XP School Doncaster opened in 2014. and is heavily influenced by the extremely successful practices of High Tech High and EL Education (Expeditionary Learning) schools, USA. Our strategic vision is defined by our Design Principles.
XP School Doncaster was inspected by Ofsted in July 2017 and found to be “Outstanding” in all areas.
XP School Doncaster has also recently received its first set of GCSE results in Summer 2019. The fantastic results are a credit to the students and the team at XP.
XP East opened in 2017, creating a campus of two schools in Doncaster.
The location for XP Gateshead is the site of the former Thomas Hepburn Community Academy school in High Felling, which closed in 2019.
We will open in late August 2021, welcoming 50 students into Year 7 from across the whole of Gateshead. Each year we will add an additional cohort of 50 students. The school will have 250 students in 2025.
Our curriculum is academically rigorous, standards-based and university-bound. The signature element of our curriculum is study through cross-subject Learning Expeditions. Learning Expeditions are academically rigorous and connect students to their community and the world.
Our academic aim is that all our students are able to go to university after experiencing seven years of working hard, getting smart and being kind.
At XP Schools we have a relentless focus on beautiful work and character growth.
As a consequence, our students make outstanding academic progress.
