Behaviour Lead – Gilbert Ward Academy
Prosper Learning Trust
MPS/UPS £28,000 - £43,685 per annum depending on relevant teaching experience plus SEN £2,384, TLR 2a £3,017
19th May 2023
Opening in September 2023, Gilbert Ward Academy will be a purpose built, brand new, state of the art Academy, catering for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) as their primary area of need. At full capacity, Gilbert Ward Academy will provide education to 80 pupils aged 11-16 working between lower key stage two and key stage four.
Many of the pupils who will attend Gilbert Ward Academy will have additional special educational needs, such as, autistic spectrum condition (ASC), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and speech and language communication difficulties. Pupils attending Gilbert Ward Academy may have, at some point, not had success or positive experiences in their education elsewhere. As a result – along with other factors – pupils will more than likely be working at a lower-than-expected key stage relative to their age. Most pupils joining in September 2023 will be working at lower and upper key stage two and will be transitioning from primary schools.
We are seeking to appoint a Behaviour Lead who aligns with our ethos and values. The Behaviour Lead will be responsible for leading on the behaviour support within Gilbert Ward Academy. The successful candidate will have experience of successfully implementing effective behaviour support processes and procedures within a special school setting. They will have a track record of impact in improving pupils’ quality of life as a direct result of their support.
Successful candidates will join the schools middle leadership team, supported by the schools senior leadership team. They will be provided with high quality training to support them to perform well in their roles.
The Trust is proud to say that the Real Living Wage is matched and we also offer the successful candidate:
- A friendly and supportive team of staff who are willing to share expertise and learn from one another
- Opportunities for career development and support with development through Trust wide CPD programmes
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme and support from the Trust’s Wellbeing Network Group
- Access to either Teacher’s Pension or Local Government Pension Scheme
This is an exciting time to join Gilbert Ward Academy, and an opportunity to be part of establishing and defining the education and support for pupils joining us in September 2023, and years to come.

Prosper Learning Trust
Prosper Learning Trust was established in January 2018 with Newcastle Bridges School and Mary Astell Academy. Thomas Bewick School joined the Trust in April 2019, Harry Watts Academy in September 2020 and Gilbert Ward Academy will open in September 2023. We are striving to build further collaboration across the academies and grow as a multi-academy trust, whilst continuing to strengthen our relationships with schools outside the MAT for the benefit of our pupils.
Prosper Learning Trust was formed to help vulnerable young people succeed. Many children and young people face challenges in their lives that many adults will happily never experience, Prosper Learning Trust’s range of academies are here to support them in doing so.
Wherever possible we will help these young people to thrive in a mainstream educational setting. Where that cannot happen, we will provide a safe space for them in one of our Alternative Provision schools until they are ready to return or move on.
Our Specialist Academies offer autistic children and young people the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment, where differences are celebrated, and every pupil is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
Through our academies, we provide high quality teaching, curriculum and care in a range of environments. We provide education from 0 to 18 years old, in normal school settings, in hospitals, and via outreach work and support transition between them at every stage.Visit School Website
